Loan & EMI Calculator – Estimate Monthly Installments & Interest

Taking out a loan is a major commitment. If you don't calculate the total interest cost upfront, you can end up overpaying. This EMI calculator helps you analyze loan offers and understand amortization schedules.

Calculate monthly loan installments (EMI), total interest paid, and repayment schedules. Input loan principal, interest rate, and term. Access Amortization calculations and compound interest tables.

EMI = P × r × (1+r)^n / ((1+r)^n − 1).

How to Use the loan calculator

This tool calculates monthly payments using the standard reducing balance loan formula, displaying principal vs. interest components.

  1. 1Enter the total loan amount (principal) you wish to borrow in the first field.
  2. 2Input the annual interest rate (e.g. 5.5) and choose the repayment term in years or months.
  3. 3Review the monthly payment (EMI), the total interest to be paid, and the overall cost of the loan.

The Amortization Loan Formula

Monthly EMI is computed using compound interest divided by the present value annuity factor.

EMI = [P × r × (1 + r)^n] ÷ [(1 + r)^n − 1] where P = Principal, r = monthly interest rate, n = loan term in months

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

EMI stands for Equated Monthly Installment. It is a fixed payment amount made by a borrower to a lender at a specified date each calendar month.

The monthly rate (r) is the annual rate divided by 12 and then divided by 100. For instance, 6% annual rate = 6 / 12 / 100 = 0.005 per month.

It is a table detailing each periodic payment on an amortizing loan. Each payment represents both principal reduction and interest cost.

This version is designed for standard fixed-rate amortization schedules. Prepayment overrides are planned for future releases.

For a fixed-rate loan, the total monthly EMI remains constant, but the portion going toward principal increases as the interest portion decreases.

Understanding amortization keeps you in control of your debt. Utilize this calculator to compare bank offers and choose the most affordable interest schedules.
